About the Image

Fireworks On High School Hill by Jean Pacheco Ravinski

Every Fourth of July Needham, Mass has a fireworks display on Memorial Field next to our High School hill. One night, long ago, a few embers fell on the roof of the high school and we kids were all excited about it thinking the school may burn down! Never to fear, Needham's finest firefighters doused those embers down before you knew it. Good times.

About the Artist - Jean Pacheco Ravinski

Jean Pacheco Ravinski

Growing up in Needham, Massachusetts I was influenced by the paintings and illustrations of N. C. Wyeth who lived in Needham and donated the paintings he used for books and magazines to the Needham Public Library (they have a great collection of his artwork there now). This is where I would go to immerse myself in his artwork and the artwork of all the book illustrators. Ludwig Bemelmans became another of my favorites and so I became a watercolorist and muralist at an early age. I spent my high school years taking Saturday classes at Mass College of Art in Boston and spent quite a bit of time in the art department at Needham High School where my art teacher, Bob Enos, helped me get my artist's portfolio ready for the juried acceptance...
