This is part of a series of 16 paintings titled FIRMAMENT CRACKED - Inside Trauma, which I hope may help those outside of trauma gain some empathic glimpse of how traumatized person feels and may see the world. Often, human beings willfully or impulsively destroy all that is precious to someone else out of spite, anger, revenge, even in the mistaken but fervent belief that what they are doing is right and good. When they do, they seldom see that they are destroying their own world as well--the world we all must share somehow. Sometimes when all that once was beautiful is broken to bits, a traumatized person cannot even find comfort or joy in their memories, for those same memories also remind them of their loss, and of the shock of seeing...
About the leaf:
The leaf you will see in all of my later paintings, is my personal artist signature and contains my initials, so it represents me, but also often takes a quasi-human role to represent a single person or an 'everyone'. The leaf changes, evolves, and its placement, size and colour are adjusted to suit the painting, which may include it as a sort of observer in the scene, a nearly hidden element, or even a focal point. It may represent various things, as well. It is left to the viewer to assign any meaning to it or to determine how I see it, myself.
