A geisha woman, adorned with feathers and orange silk, accompanied by a little school of carp. The geisha's kimono is fashioned out of individual bits of silk that I have folded and draped and hand-sewn into place. The sky behind her is a piece of brown broadcloth which I treated with bleach to produce the lines of clouds.
I have been quilting for close to twenty years now and I still find this to be a completely engaging art form: I still feel that there is so much to experiment with and to perfect, and so many unborn quilts to bring into the world !
In my art, I cherish two main goals. One it making a beautiful quilt with glorious and harmonious colors. My second goal is to create a space of joy and serenity; when people look at one of my quilts my hope is that they will feel peaceful and light of heart. For this reason, I am especially drawn to creating what I call healing art - quilts that will go to live in a hospital or medical office or other healing setting.
