In this art quilt, I have made use of photo-imagery of an earlier piece, entitled "Five Geishas". I have edited the orignal image for size, orientation and shading. There are three large Geisha women, robed in brilliant orange and peach kimonos with black sashes. The lower portion of the quilt shows two full images of the original quilt with a lower color saturation. For the background, I have chosen strong shades of sky blue, so that the women appear to be floating in the sky.
I have been quilting for close to twenty years now and I still find this to be a completely engaging art form: I still feel that there is so much to experiment with and to perfect, and so many unborn quilts to bring into the world !
In my art, I cherish two main goals. One it making a beautiful quilt with glorious and harmonious colors. My second goal is to create a space of joy and serenity; when people look at one of my quilts my hope is that they will feel peaceful and light of heart. For this reason, I am especially drawn to creating what I call healing art - quilts that will go to live in a hospital or medical office or other healing setting.
