About the Image

Getting Dirty by Stephen Roberson

The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight is a medium-lift tandem rotor transport helicopter, used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to provide all-weather, day-or-night assault transport of combat troops, supplies and equipment. Assault Support is its primary function, and the movement of supplies and equipment is secondary. Additional tasks include combat support, search and rescue, support for forward refueling and rearming points, CASEVAC and Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP). The commercial version is the BV 107-II, commonly referred to as simply the "Vertol".

About the Artist - Stephen Roberson

Stephen Roberson

As a self-taught artist, and former Marine Corps CH-46E pilot, Stephen strives to produce paintings which reflect the proud character of Marine Corps and U.S. military aviation. He began exploring this subject matter when he discovered a lack of CH-46 artwork. Starting out with pencil drawings, Stephen now works almost entirely with oils. While much of the subject matter is fairly detailed, more emphasis is placed on the "feel" of the painting, concentrating on color, contrast, and mood. Stephen is available for commissioned works. Stephen is a member of the American Society of Aviation Artists. To view his non-aviation works, please visit www.srobersonstudios.com.
