From the "Goggie" series, contemporary breed studies with no background. This is the Beagle, a scenthound developed in England and mainly used to hunt rabbit and hare. Its keen sense of smell means the breed is often employed as detection dogs. Because of their even, gentle temperment and unintimidating stature, they are also used as therapy dogs.
I am a self-taught artist, and have been drawing and painting all my life. Early on, I showed a particular love of, and aptitude for, drawing horses, and equine subject matter remains a specialty of mine, although these days my range of subject matter includes landscapes, florals and all kinds of animals.
I have been painting commissioned dog, cat and horse portraits (with a few bunnies thrown in here and there) since about 1983. I have painted many posthumous portraits as well.
My art sometimes finds its way onto functional objects as well--wooden trinket boxes, wooden cube puzzles as examples--and I have been working on a couple of sets of matryoshkas (Russian nesting dolls), one in a Harry Potter theme, the other endangered...
