Mathew Lodge

Mathew Lodge captured, developed and printed his first black and white photo with a Kodak viewfinder camera at age 10, and was hooked. A family friend who saw the photos gave him a simple Braun viewfinder camera, two lenses and a light meter, which drove Mathew's passion for available-light photography. Learning to "eyeball" exposure without the meter was a great way to learn about the nature of light, now one of the key qualities of his work today. He monopolized the family SLR, an manual Russian Zenit, before graduating to modern 35mm SLRs.
