Alquilar was invited to work at the John Michael Kohler metal foundries for two residencies. Here she produced an astounding number of distinctive, spiritual sculptures in brass and cast iron.The process is as follows;1. Alquilar sculpts image in clay. 2. Alquilar casts image in wax. 3. Maria casts wax in catalytic sand which she then re-sculpts with a small drill. this gives each work a distinctive original quality.4. An employee pours the desired metal. 5.The rough hewn sculpture is sandblasted by the artist. 6.
