About the Image

Hired Help by Alison Galvan

"Hired Help" by Alison Galvan was created with mixed media and acrylics on a wood panel. 3 dimensional and full of texture, Alison's work begs to be touched and experienced beyond what can be seen online or in a photograph. Inspired by my children, who, after playing in the park all day, would come home to splash about in the bath. Once dried off they'd race to help in the kitchen wanting to peel the potatoes and carrots even before they got into their pyjamas! "Hired Help" is bas-relief, and while the wood panel is 1.5" deep, when taking into consideration the child's little backside the depth is closer to 5". Unframed because of the relief, "Hired Help" is varnished, wired and ready to be hung and displayed immediately.

Completing high school Alison knew that “regular” university was not where she...
