An old barn on Devil's Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado caught my eye, cross country skiing. The photograph was enhanced with a wet plate treatment that gives it the worn, vintage effect.
How the property became known as Devil's Thumb Ranch is rich in western history going back to the area's Native American tribes. Local lore says the Native Americans named Devils Thumb, a rock cliff that sits high above the property and the legend goes, after the warring Ute and Arapahoe tribes settled their differences in the Ranch Creek Valley, they buried the devil, but left his thumb exposed to remind them of the evils of war.
