Artist's Description
No matter where you are going, there is no feeling better than going home. That was my aim in Homeward Bound. Long, grueling days in the cold preparing for survival there is no better reassurance to have safe shelter. The man and his horse are greeted by their house & beautiful day as they anxiously prance home.
About Gregory Perillo
Gregory Perillo is one of today’s most respected and renowned American Western artists. His powerfully dramatic, emotional depictions of Native Americans and early settlers, as well as Western landscapes and wildlife, have made him one of America’s leading painters and sculptors. Born in Greenwich Village, Perillo moved to Staten Island, New York, at age two and has lived there his entire life. Poverty stricken as a boy, he was forced to use as canvases the paper bags ironed by his mother and his first medium was coffee. I like this painting for a lot of the same reasons as the one titled, "On the Move." In this one, you've traded the wolf for a man on a horse, you've added a home and there are many beautiful trees with snow-covered branches. I noticed the shading that created a shadow of the horse and rider. The smoke coming out of the chimney looks exactly like that in real life. It's an inviting reminder of the warmth of a crackling fire that awaits after being on the trail. I like your descriptions.
