This is a painting of the road into a small Kentish village, Biddenden, during a period of heavy snow, which lasted for some weeks. Everything was totally frozen and there was a peaceful silence, as very little traffic could pass. This made me think of what "my" village must have been like, before modern road surfaces brought so much traffic.... and I just wanted to capture this timelessness and tranquility.
