This is a high resolution image of the Horsehead nebula (B33) in Orion. The blue reflection nebula below it is NGC 2023. The red background is emission nebula IC 434. It is illuminated by gas ionized by the intense radiation of a nearby star. The photo is 5.5 hours of exposure with a 10" telescope using Hydrogen alpha, clear, red, blue and green filters.
