About the Image

Hossein--Blue Mod by Misha Maynerick Blaise

This is calligraphy by Mishkin Qalam created sometime in the mid-late 1800's in Persia. It is currently on display in Mazriah, Akka and says "Hossein," the given name of Baha'u'llah. This is part of a new "mod" series of images where I layer ornate calligraphy from the Baha'i Writings over a simple, modern background.

About the Artist - Misha Maynerick Blaise

Misha Maynerick Blaise

Check out my main art website: www.mishablaise.com and my blog: http://mishamayblaise.wordpress.com I believe in the oneness of humanity and that as one human race, we share a common destiny and purpose. My central artistic goal is to discover intelligent and creative methods to engage with the questions of meaning and responsibility that arise in a rapidly changing, multicultural society. In my work, I explore the application of time-honored spiritual and ethical principles to contemporary issues that are often divorced from such understanding. Through the juxtaposition of traditional spiritual or religious themes with the immediacy of everyday events, I attempt to produce insight into the vagaries of the world we live in.
