Smile Sam, you know exactly how fortunate you are. Fostered in my house until adoptable, he was at death's door after being turned loose by an adult (brand new) owner to run outside (unfenced yard) one morning. His first morning in his new home.Running, looking to find his way home to his original owner, he was hit by a truck-that went out of it's way to purposely hit the dog! One vet said to euthanize. One vet said he'd lose his mangled leg. Another vet said save the leg and the dog. Both new & old owners said forget it, too expensive & time consuming. New owner turned dog over to rescue. Sam had a full recovery and lived a full, long life. Sam knew exactly how fortunate he was & that all humans are not irresponsible. Smile Sam, you were worth it.

Wow, pastels? Great job on this work. But such a sad and happy tale about his life. I can see the love in this image. May the 'truck' owner suffer for lack of compassion and basic humanity.
Susan Herber replied:
Thanks Jeff. He is such a wonderful dog. Sadly, he's in a foster home again. His owners passed away and their children did not want him. At 12 years old, this dog is once again homeless. Some how he's still a very happy, grateful soul! This portrait is pastel on sanded paper.
