The print is much darker in person. It looks like an underexposed photo and hard to make out any detail on the bottom half of the print. Paper quality is good. Fast shipping.
Artist's Description
Jacques Balthazart, Belgian neuroscientist, injecting male sex hormones into bird eggs with female embryos. These are eggs from the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). The birds that hatch are female, but exhibit male behaviour and attract females. This study found that this reversal of behavioural gender accounted for all the homosexual behaviour exhibited by these birds. Balthazart is Associate Professor of Neurosciences at the University of Liege, Belgium. He specialises in animal behaviour, hormones and behaviour, and the role of hormones in bird brains (avian neuroendocrinology). Photographed in 2012.
