When I painted this I felt like I had been dropped into Switzerland. The air was clear, the sun on a crisp fall day warmed me, and the pastures surrounding this store and leading away from Mt. Erie in the background and down to the lake, had flocks of sheep eating the fresh green grass. It was magical. People ask where this is and when they do I often can tell they're from the Midwest because they have this air of disbelief about them. This is actually near Anacortes, Washington, and if you're near it, it would pay to go inside. It's a classic old store beautifully restored. Even has wood floors that squeak. If you're like me, you can't help but buy a candy bar or ice cream to enjoy the day with.
Perry studied and received a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from Washington State University, and has made a living with his art since 1965. His work is included in numerous collections and he holds many awards. Puget Sound raised, he lives on Whidbey Island fifty miles north of Seattle, Washington. Painting what surrounds him, he says, "I feel each piece of my art is like a word (or sentence), and when all is said and done I would hope people would say I had something interesting to say."
