To me there's something genuinely magical about standing in the presence of our prehistoric past. These relics of a long lost society are just tiny windows into an ancient world. We don't entirely understand their meaning, but I think many of us long to know more about those people.

This bit of stone age prehistory is Lanyon Quoit, a dolmen standing in the fields of Cornwall. As cool as it looks, I've read that in fact it's a shadow of its former self. After standing for thousands of years, a storm in the 1800s knocked it down. Locals re-erected it but shorter and with only three legs instead of its original four.

I've also read there's some question as to whether this was the remains of a chamber tomb or some other sort of monument. Consensus seems to lean to the latter at the moment.
