About Jani Freimann
Expressive Portraits Of Animals And People: Jani is an award winning water media/graphite artist who paints and draws people and animals in a loose, painterly style she calls impressionistic realism. "I love playing interesting colors against each other; creating movement and texture with all the different medias mixing the medias as needed to add another layer of character and depth. It fits my adventurous spirit." She intentionally leaves a little to the viewer's imagination so they can be a part of her emotive, story-telling artwork. Jani is accomplished in a variety of medias and offers her fine art skills for pet portrait commissions in graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil. More Here. COMMISSIONS/LICENSING: E-MAIL...

revisit, voted.. seriously most of the images on the contest are paints.. I don't see them as spots.. but there are some awesome paintings on the contest. glad you have run it.
Jani Freimann replied:
Thank you, Michele. The contest is for both paints and appaloosas because not enough appy submissions to make the contest competative. :-)
Michele Avanti

I just love this! Great work. Is this a horse that you own? Such a gorgeous animal, whether he is real or came out of your imagination... I just love this work!
Jani Freimann replied:
Thank you, Lisa. This was not one of my horses. We owned Arabians when we had horses. As a kid, I would go out in the pasture and study the horses as they ate, rested and interacted with each other. I took my sketchbook a couple of times, sat near them and drew them too. I loved horses so much that I drew them all the time. In fact, I drew them instead of doing my classwork and homework. I've spent so much time drawing horses over the years that I could and do draw horses from my head. In fact, it's strange that I don't have more horse art posted on FAA. I plan on posting more horses soon.

Jani, I know you are right. Long time ago, lack of communications from a framer and it always stuck in my mind. Thanks for the input, will now have to change to suede. I am forever learning. Thanks, Antonia
Antonia Citrino
Jani, Thumbs up on this appy. I've called it velour, but I suppose suede board is the right description. I've found it very difficult to work on, but, with persistance it certainly gives a different effect.
Jani Freimann replied:
Thank you, Antonia. I've never heard it called velour before. I get my 'suede board' from a local frame shop. They sell the 'fall outs' to the suede matte boards and I find them to be a convenient size and very workable for pet portraits when I use soft pastels. However, it does not allow you to erase. The pink in the skin is, in fact, eraser marks from a no. 2 pencil. After noticing that I wasn't able to remove the pink eraser marks, I just went with it and made more. After all, Leopard Appy's have pink skin. A happy accident. :-)
