We thought the Lincoln Memorial would be deserted at night....maybe it is if you go really really really late! But a little more than an hour past sunset it was still crowded so we had to take our photos off to the side to minimize the number of people in the photo. As most know, the Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln; it was dedicated in 1922. It is located on the west end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument. The building is in the form of a Greek Doric temple and contains a large seated sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. The memorial, designed by Henry Bacon, after ancient Greek temples, stands 190 feet long, 119 feet wide, and almost 100 feet high.
