Artist's Description

The streets of Oaxaca were quieter than usual on New Years Day when I visited, but this was my impression of the city after a high-spirited New Years Eve. In the city center, some restaurants and shops were open, but walking just a little bit away from there, you encountered shuttered shop doors like this one.

Shops and homes are often combined. It wasn't uncommon in some cities that when I went in a shop, the owner would come to wait one me from an adjacent living room.

Whether the shop keep here lived upstairs or not, you can tell that's the way this old building was constructed. I also love how all the best architectural details went to the upstairs residence while the lower shops are fairly nondescript. Look at that balcony and the hefty column on the corner and those massive colonial era doors....

Whether you've purchased one piece or a house full or you simply admire and share with your friends, your patronage of my art is...
