The babies spent time on various parts of the railing and roof, waiting for their parents to arrive with food. Each time a parent would approach with an insect in it's beak that it had gathered while flying over the nearby hay field, the babies would open their mouths and chirp, hoping each one's chirp would be the one to bring the insect to it's mouth. The Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica) is the most widespread species of swallow in the world.
