Schwertbergers themes are in principal light and space, which lead through all his works. In the sixties he painted surreal, science-fiction sort of spaces and sceneries, which could be classified as Phantastic Realism. Starting from there, Schwertberger developed a unique pictorial language, which could be described as „Realistic Abstractionism“ During the late sixties Schwertberger lived in Switzerland, before he moved to New York.
