About the Image

Making of the Haitian Flag by Nicole Jean-Louis

This is an historic illustration, documentary painting of Haiti's first banner. The setting is on the "Merotte Plantation", at a secret Congress meeting held at Arcahaie, from May 14 to May 18, 1803. Arcahaie is a town located outside of Port-au-Prince. ----To be noted: The heroes in uniform are of an epic representation of them at the time of the Haitian Revolution of 1804. First, I will introduce the 4 national heroes portrayed in my painting; they are: Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Henry Christophe, Alexandre Petion, and Catherine Flon....
