Gunter Erik Hortz was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1941. ( In the midst of HELL.) Hortz began demonstrating his artistic ability at the age of nine. He was privately tutored in drawing, painting, and sculpture. He also visited the major museums in Europe to study the masters: Monet, Lautrec, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, and Matisse. After he left Europe in 1961, he became an understudy of Marc Chagall at Lincon Center N.Y.C. and an assistant to Peter Max at his Atelier in New York City. His talent was both recognized and encouraged. After his participation in the prestigious International Art Exposition, Hortz was recognized as an exceptional talent.
