Bers Grandsinge

Jean Pierre Bers, aka Bers Grandsinge was born in 1955, in Ipamu, the Democratic Republic of Congo. From 1976 to 1981, Bers studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, and currently lives in Belgium, since 1985. In 1985, Bers made a trip to the US, where he met some local artists, among them: Jean Michel Basquiat and Franco Gret. During a meeting Basquiat called Bers “Grandsinge” The nickname stuck. Grandsinge was the first Congolese artist who moved to Belgium, under the advice of Jean Michel Basquiat and Franco. Bers Grandsinge has created a very personal artistic approach and technique.
