I shot this in my back yard in northern Maine towards the southeast. The Milky Way, Sirius, Orion, and Jupiter are all visible.
The background is a carefully aligned and stacked image of 6 photos shot at 14mm, f/2.8, ISO 3200, and 30 seconds for a total overall exposure of 184 seconds. Noise reduction was done from 30 dark frames that I shot with the lens cover on at the same settings to remove hot pixels. At such a wide angle, the outer edges won�t perfectly align.
The star trails are from the first 60 frames of the timelapse covering a 30 minute time period. A lot of work went into selecting just a few of the brightest stars and making the tails fade out like meteors, with the brighter stars having longer trails than the...
