Norman Johnson replied:

I understand trhat they get so large in their native Argentina that they destroy twlwphoe and electric pols and are considered quite a nuisance.

I bought this in the greeting card form. I have been purchasing cards from Fine Art America for two or three years. Covid might have been some of the reason for looking for cards on the internet. Shops were closed. The main reason I buy cards from FAA is because I got tired of looking for cards at the usual card shops. I could find cards (sometimes) that looked good on the outside but the verses were terrible or it was the other way around...terrible on the outside but maybe a decent verse inside. I pick cards from FAA that fit with the occasion. I figure I can write something on the inside as good as any card company could. I wouldn't buy these cards if I didn't think they were wonderful. The cards are beautiful and excellent quality and the envelopes are equality as good. I am glad I can make a copy of what I've bought so I can keep track of who gets what card. I don't want to send the same card to someone twice. In this case, the card is going to someone for Mother's Day.

Artist's Description

These monk parakeets, or quaker parrots, have built a large commeunal nest in one of the field lights of a baseball diamond in Cape Coral, Florida. Native to Argentina, the monk parakeet has established a large feral population in South Florida. They have bright green upperparts, a pale grey forehead and breast, an orange-yellow beak and dark blue flight feathers. The monk parakeet (myiopsitta monachus), also known as the quaker parrot, is a native of South America and can be found in dry open areas of Argentina, paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil where they feed in flocks on seeds, nuts, fruits, and greens, both in trees and on the ground. Because of the pet trade, escaped and released birds have established populations in the United States since the 1960's, Europe, and Asia. In the United States they live in urban and suburban areas from San Diego to Miami in the south, and from Chicago to New York in the north, where they feed mainly on ornamental fruit trees.

About Norman Johnson

Norman Johnson

Like many of the old generation of photographers, I began with a Kodak box brownie when I was a kid. When I saw what resulted, I was hooked. Having grown up with an aunt who was a professional artist, I was always exposed to the creative arts. As a result, I have always liked to paint. Later I went to the Defense Information School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in 1966 where I got more intensive training in photography and photojournalism and practiced that craft in Vietnam and the United States. I studied with the Famous Artist’s and Famous Photographer’s Schools to help hone my skills. I study the composition, use of light, contrasts of intensities of color, etc. of artist’s works that I catch my eyes to help me hone my skills. I...
