Oh my gosh Jerry! I am so glad this showed up on my activity feed to enjoy. Everything about this is unbelievably amazing...my absolute new favorite. L F

Thank you very much, Roseanne! So nice to hear from you. Have you been able to create new art during this pandemic? I hope you, your loved ones and friends are all staying healthy and well. Take care.

This has always been stunner for me dear Jerry, as I am madly in love with cloudscapes in all their stages. The colors, the lighting, composition, and perspective are all MARVELoUS! I don't feel you have gotten carried away with the clouds in this, as you stated. I totally agree with what you shared in you description, "Summer storms in Monument Valley, Arizona, can be breathtakingly beautiful. The red rock monoliths and coral clouds combine to form a visual experience not soon forgotten." I love this! LF and FB Janet💕
Jerry Bokowski replied:

Must respond to your last reply: silly, rigid lady without an ounce of art discernment! I always taught my students that art rules are guidelines only. The two fundamental concepts in good composition are 1-Centre of Interest which attracts the mind and 2-Focal Point which attracts the eye. Sometimes there can be both major and minor (or subordinate) in each category. The focal point is usually emphasized through composition, colour, tonal values and leading lines, etc. The tallest monolith leads upwards towards your strongest contrast of values (the 2 central clouds surrounded by the deep blues) definitely a focal point, that's what initially caught my eye! The centre of interest would be a circle encompassing the 3 taller closest monoliths reaching through the stormy sky to those clouds which attracts my mind and tells me a story about the storm in Monument Valley! The outer edges of the painting contain less detail, colour and lower value contrast which takes me into the centre of the image to enjoy your magnificent portrayal of "Monumental Monsoon"!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I gotta save this for future reference at times, Malanda. So sweet of you to take your time to express yourself in my behalf. You are special!
Malanda Warner
Jerry this is a real eye catching composition, the form and warm glow of the clouds and monoliths combine to make a breathtaking combination! LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I did this 25 years ago, Malanda. Rebelleous me did not care about "focal points" so I was at a show visiting a fellow artist next to me and a lady looked at it, scouled with budging veins and said out loud, " This has no focal point, way too much going on, way too busy" and stormed off in a huff! Real life outdoors can be busy I thought to me self. So sometimes I chafe at the 'Rules' and sometimes I hone in on, even spotlight, FOCAL points! Thank you for your sweet comments! 77 FAA folks also enjoyed it enough to comment!

Thank you and Heather, Nancy. I painted this way back in 1992, the clouds from memory of our summer monsoon storms.
