A member of the 80+ head of Bison herd at Caprock Canyons State Park, the remnants of legendary Panhandle pioneer rancher Charles Goodnight’s historic bison herd were introduced to the park in 1998. The Goodnight herd was one of five foundation herds that supplied stock to save American bison from extinction and represents the last of the southern plains bison herd.

Melany Sarafis

Melany Sarafis served her country for 24 years and recently retired from the USAF as a First Sergeant. She thinks it's really stupid when photographers refer to themselves in the 3rd person on their biographies. I needed to do something "low speed" after a successful but stressful military career. I've have been an avid photographer for a few years and enjoy this "internal" creative process. I am now a full time student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Tx, persuing a BFA in Studio Arts with an emphasis in Photography. I'm happiest when I'm outdoors with nature, and I love rural decay and exploring ghost towns. I feel my spirit soar when I'm outside! I often add textures to "abandoned" photos, giving them a rustic...
