"Music of the Spheres" features a 3/4 life-size figure in a dark, curtained interior. Behind her is a window looking out into a night sky. There are stars in the sky, including the constellation Lyra, or Lyre--an ancient musical instrument. Overhead are Chinese lanterns, which, combined with the large globe, contribute to the loosely circular composition.
The ancient Greeks, particularly the mathematician Pythagoras, believed the music of the spheres was an inaudible harmonious music created by the movement of the celestial bodies.
