This is a painting of the house I grew up in where my 80 year old father still lives. I used a black and white photograph of the Bussey Family. They were the Founders of this small town in southern Iowa. The town was established in 1875. This photograph was taken in approx. 1902. It is hard to verify much of the information on many of these photographs I work from because there are very few of the towns people still living that can confirm information. So I have taken it upon myself to research and paint and draw with as much detail as possible to preserve the history of the town of Bussey. There is some guess work in the colors of clothing etc. But I find the details of the woodwork on the house and the design of the swing in the yard amazing. This makes doing theses paintings quite a joy.
My father Frank bought this house from a school teacher Hazel Bussey in 1957 for the price of $4000 dollars. He said they bought the house on contract for $35 dollars a month. The Insurance Co...
Todd Spaur, lives in small rural town of Bussey Iowa. graduated Twin Cedars High School in 1980. Graduated with an AA Degree from Des Moines Area Comm. College in 1983. Has Worked in the sign business as a designer and sign painter for most of his carreer. Became disabled from a car accident in 1994. Has worked as a freelance artis since Mainly doing portraits of people from photographs. Main highlights of carreer were the portrait of President Obama, autographed original. Also was featured on the Today Show "American Story, Payback Painter" with Bob Dotson. This was on July 4th 2012, the story focused on a mural painted on a building in his hometown of Bussey, as a thank you to the town for helping him and his family after a horrible...
