This mandala was drawn during many hours of meditation and deep contemplation of the life's work of Paul Stamets, world renowned mycologist and brilliant thinker.

I had been reading and re-reading one of his greatest works, Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World. I'd been absolutely fascinated by the research done on the use of fungus; as a tool of bio-remediation, to help clean toxic and polluted areas, as a source of medicine to prevent a wide array of ailments including cancer, and as a highly nutritious food source. My mind and being was completely absorbed into this fascination. And so, when I sat down to draw, its not surprising that the image that came forth resembles mycelium, the network-like root structure of fungus.

As a sidenote about my art:

When I sit down to draw, I don't have any idea of what I am going to draw. I place a dot in the center of my page, and then allow the image to slowly grow outwards, bit by bit. I do my best...
