The National Building Museum was built in 1887 in Washington, DC. It was made with 15,500,000 bricks, a world record at the time. The building initially housed the United States Pension Bureau, and in later years other government agencies occupied its vast structure. In 1980 Congress turned the building into a museum dedicated to building and architectural arts, and named it the National Building Museum.
The building has a vast, open interior space which is popular for large events, including Inaugural Balls when a new President of the United States takes office. Hillary Clinton made her Democratic Primary concession speech here to Barack Obama in 2008. Additionally, in this massive interior space are eight Corinthian columns which are 75 feet tall and eight feet in diameter (the columns are among the tallest in the world). I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
