This is another Maine classic: Cape Neddick Light Station or Nibble Light! The lighthouse and grounds sit on Nubble Island, about 100 yds off Cape Neddick Point near York ME, so they are not accessible to the public. However, the view from Sohier Park (where this photo is taken) is one of the most photographed scenes on the New England coast. Wikipedia states that the Voyager spacecraft, which carries photographs of Earth's most prominent man made structures and natural features should it fall into the hands of intelligent extraterrestrials, includes a photo of Nubble Light along with images of the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal! Pretty heady stuff! Cape Neddick Light was dedicated in 1879 and is one of the last eight lighthouses in Maine to still have its Fresnel lens. It was added to the national Register of Historic Places in 1985. This image was taken early in the morning.
