This image depicts a man from the Oglala Lakota Nation, which is located in South Dakota. His face is painted in this way to instill fear in his enemies, a common practice of natives, especially the northern tribes. His hawk feather headdress depicts his status among his tribal members. His eagle wing prayer fan is raised up and covering part of his face in a gesture of protection and asking the Creator for a good battle. He is strong. He is fierce. He is Oglala Warrior.
