About the Image

'Old Crow' by Pat Speirs

Old Crow The famous mount of WW2 ace Bud Anderson seen in a high level transit flight. Bud Anderson served in the European conflict, based at Leiston Field, Suffolk, with the 357th Fighter Group. One of the very few triple aces during the war Bud scored no less than 16 victories while flying well over 100 combat missions. As elegant as ever the P51 still serves to stir the emotions during many appearances at UK airshows - this example photographed at Duxford in 06. Recent contact with a colleague confirmed that Bud is still well and active in his California home - we all owe him, and all his serving buddies, a great debt
