HIdden in an open-air courtyard,
these old rusty bicycles
must have been leaning
against the brick wall
of this vintage chateau for years.
The stories they could tell
about the old times,
wheeling along the back-roads
of the Loire River Valley,
wheels humming and clunking
as they bounced along
on the old brick pavers
The rusty fenders kept mud
off of the gentile clothing
of their owners
while the old leather saddles
made for a more comfortable ride.
The back racks carried the groceries
from L' Epicerie and the croissantes
from Le Boulangerie.
The old headlamp
lit the way in the evening
from the Bar after quafing

After 30 years in the floral and plant nursery business, Debra and Dave Vanderlaan sold both businesses and turned their life-long photography hobby into full-time obsession.
