Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Artist's Description

Olfactory epithelium. Computer artwork showing the structure of the specialised layer of tissue that lines the inside of the nasal cavity and is involved in smell. In humans, the olfactory epithelium measures about 1 square centimetre (in each nostril) and sits on the roof of the nasal cavity about 7 cm above and behind the nostrils. Olfaction, along with taste, is a form of chemoreception, which turns a chemical stimulus (in this case odours) into a nerve impulse. For the labelled diagram see image C008/9745.
