With a massively and mostly dead tree in the foreground, it's easy to miss the baby barred owl in the limbs to the left. And on top of that, most of us just don't look up when walking in the woods. Our eyes seemed to be trained to look on the level. But I heard the mother bird fussing over he young one being so far from the nest, perhaps for the first time, that my eye was carried to the top of the tree to see what all the fuss was about. Just as my eye landed, mom took off and I was just left with the little delinquent above.
