This is an original oil painting of a cattleya orchid, 'Volcano Queen', from my Orchid Fever series, which is a part of my general Florals series. I love the rich orange blooms with their crimson markings, as well as their frilled sculptural forms. The series title, 'Orchid Fever', refers to a historical period (the Victorian age) during which British collectors paid exorbitant prices for exotic orchids.
