Photograph Members of Bolivia's Navy wait for the start of ceremonies in La Paz for the Day of the Sea / Dia del Mar, which commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Topater on 23rd March 1879. The battle marked the start of the War of the Pacific, which saw Chile defeat Bolivian and Peruvian forces and gain control of a large area of the Atacama Desert, leaving Bolivia without a coastlien in the process.
