About the Image

Organic Ceramic 1977 by Ron Hayes

Based on studies of natural forms of roots in stream banks in Iowa, this is one of a series of objects intended to capture the organic interrelationships. Constructed from custom formulated stoneware clay, with application of dry glazes and gas firing to cone 12 without bisque firing. Following its documentation in slides sent to the University of Iowa, it is believed it served as the inspiration for a series of tower ceramics created by Prof. Chuck Hindes. This ceramic sculpture is in the artists collection.
