Artist's Description
This is a picture that I took of a DC-3C at sunrise. My Dad was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force for 22 years and since his retirement in 1998, he's worked as the main mechanic at a county airport in Kentucky. As I was out taking pictures at o'dark thirty in the morning, I was able to talk with my Dad about this particular plane and he made me start thinking about things I hadn't really considered before. As I stood watching the sun rise on this very cool plane, my Dad stood next to me waxing philosophical about how he likes to imagine all the different people who have worked on this plane over the years and about the amazing women who most likely built this plane. That got me to thinking about this particular plane and it's probable history which led me to doing some research. I discovered that DC-3C's, as opposed to the straight DC-3, was the designator given to the former C-47 military planes that were later sold for commercial use. I also discovered that this plane was likely...
About Amber Kresge
First and foremost, in the unlikely event that I ever become famous, I would like to ensure that my name is not butchered in households across America. So that being said, my last name is pronounced, "KRES-GEE", or "KREZ-GEE"-not "KRESAGE" which is how most people generally pronounce it. Anyway, a little about me....Prior to my husband's retirement in January of 2015, I had spent 15 years as an Air Force wife. All of the years leading up to that I had spent as a military brat mostly in the state of Delaware where I grew up. In January of 2000, I became an orthodontist assistant; it was during that time of taking intraoral photos that I discovered my love of photography. FYI, that's probably the weirdest, "I discovered my passion for...

Amber, your description is full of fascinating information, and the image is stunning. I love the darkness of it, which seems so appropriate now that these planes are no longer in use. You've captured this vintage plane beautifully. I remember taking a DC-3 from Fresno to Bakersfield when one of the propellors went out. The pilot tried to put the passengers at ease by saying, "Don't worry. We have another one."
Amber Kresge replied:
LOL!! I love it Connie! Thanks for your comment, I really enjoyed reading it. :)
