This 11x14 piece of a hard working Dominican field worker was made to show a part of the Dominican Republic heritage. Based on my father whom worked the fields of his lands as a young man with his brothers in Samana.
Xiomara Aleksic was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in 1977 to Dominican parents who were incredibly supportive of her passion for art from very early on. She won her first art award at the age of 9 and later graduated with high honors in art.
In 2003, she received a degree in Graphic Design but continued to create traditional artwork, though most of her pieces took up residence under the bed. In early 2010, a chance encounter with Dominican artist Julio Sanchez “Julsan” led to participating in “Ola Fest”, a group exhibit that included many renown and respected Latino artist in the community.
