Pappy Boyington Warhawk Flying Tigers Gregory "Pappy" Boyington is the stuff legends are made of. With a colorful beginning to his Marine Aviation career, Boyington would begin his first combat tour with the legendary "Flying Tigers" under the leadership of Gen. Claire Chennault. After a dishonorable discharge by Chennault, Boyington would find himself eventually taking up command of a dispersed group of Corsair pilots within VMF-124, later redesignated as VMF-214 "Black Sheep Squadron". Through considerable brawling and drinking, Pappy Boyington would eventually lead VMF-214 to an exemplary victory record, where he alone would rack up 26 confirmed victories (28 by other sources) against the Empire of Japan.
