This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

I am very pleased with the quality of the product, and the gift recipient loved it and brought them to tears as it was a sentimental gift.

Artist's Description

This image may not be used to state or imply the endorsement by the Chemical Heritage Foundation of any product, service or activity, or to concur with an opinion or confirm the accuracy of any text appearing alongside or in logical association with the image. Pasteur's rabies vaccine research, as depicted in a caricature published in the British weekly magazine Vanity Fair in 1887. In 1880, French chemist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) began injecting rabies-infected nerve tissue into rabbits' brains. By injecting the same virus into a series of animals he produced a 'fixed' virus. This strain had a shorter incubation period compared to the 'wild' virus. Removing and drying the spinal cords of animals killed by an injection of the 'fixed' virus, produced an 'attenuated' (less virulent) virus. This was used to produce a vaccine, which was first used in July 1885. Artwork by Theobold Chartran ('T').
