(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) This 67 foot concrete tower lighthouse was built in 1868 on the rocky shore line of Nova Scotia, near Halifax. It still provides a beacon of hope for ships sailing the cold waters of the North Atlantic. One of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, it marks The Point and not The Cove as some believe. Before it was built, folklore says a woman found on these granite boulders in the 1800s, was the soul survivor of a shipwreck. She was injured with no memory, and was given the name of Peggy. This may be why the small inlet was named Peggys Cove, and why they still call this beautiful structure ...Peggys Point Lighthouse.

I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures or other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green magnifier square as the cursor is placed over the image.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
