About the Image

People Participating In The Annual by Phil Schermeister

People participating in the annual Labor Day Bridge Walk across the Mackinac Bridge. This is the only time people can walk across the bridge. Billed as the E ighth Wonder of the World and affectionately known as Mighty Mac, one of the wo rld's longest suspension bridges crosses the Straits of Mackinac, where Lakes Michigan and Hu ron meet. Linking Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas, the five-mile-long Ma ckinac Bridge - described by its creator as a "poem stretched across the strait s" - take s ten minutes to drive across.
