Lovely card
Piedras Blancas Lighthouse is one of three tall lighthouses built on the California Pacific Coast. The 1st order Fresnel lens was first lit on 15 February 1875 and shone brightly for decades.
In 1949, a crushing storm blew in and destroyed the lantern room and damaged the Fresnel lens. The ornate railings were ruined.
The lighthouse was still needed but the best solution to salvaging what was possible became the order of the day: thus, the lighthouse was decapitated and a cement plug fashioned into the gaping hole. It is still in use with a rotating aero-beacon on the top along with GPS and radio towers.
I have chosen to paint the lighthouse in her grand days, as one of the most beautiful lighthouses to ever shine, anywhere.
The GPS coordinates are:
Latitude: 35.66563
Longitude: -121.2844

Art is in the eye of the beholder. I will not write in the third person here. That sounds pretentious and, most of the time, inaccurate. Being in the last third of my life, it becomes clear good health is the finest gift possible. Again, nature provides the most beautiful inspirations. Walk into your own garden. Stroll a beach or a path in the woods. Watch the sun and clouds or a kitten playing with a piece of string. Pay attention to the faces you see...they each tell their own story. Create something wonderful that has a piece of your own heart on it. The emotions that drive us human beings also drive our art. The viewer is respectfully reminded my works are copyright protected. Beautiful work! I saw this lighthouse in California just last year!
Anne Norskog replied:
Thank you Judy!
Bill Cannon
Very cool lighthouse!!
Anne Norskog replied:
Thanks Bill. This painting is a "vintage look" at Piedras Blancas. The entire lantern room was removed following a terrible storm that virtually wrecked the lantern room. The cone was plugged with cement and an aero-beacon put in to keep the function intact.

Looks to me like you've had the privilege of seeing many a beautiful lighthouse Anne ! Your body of work is a wonderful tribute to these fascinating structures ! Well Done ! :)
Anne Norskog replied:
Thank you for your nice comments, Andrew. Lighthouses are part machine, part architecture, and designed 100% for good. The folks who manned these lighthouse stations were dedicated to their jobs. Lighthouses hold a very special place in my heart. (^_^)

Beautiful structure! I love this dramatic sky too!
Anne Norskog replied:
Thank you, Dan! This is a "period view" in my painting. An aero-beacon has replaced the ornate lantern room and railings--a 1949 storm all but ruined this lighthouse.
